My Top 10 Crafty Creations for 2012

New Blog

Before I get to my top 10.  I have decided that it’s time to move on from this here blog.  With the complications I am having with links and zip folders and what not. And no one really knowing why and wanting to start the new year in a good way, fresh!  I thought really hard on this, but not overly long, because it just felt right, right away when the idea came to me.  2013 will bring a fresh start for me.  And new blog, that I have been working hard on over the past few days.  I will have more SOON.

I can’t believe I am at this time of year and doing this again.  But it’s really is always so much fun to go back through my year and see how much I have grown.  Well I like to think I have, haha.  Here are my TOP 10 and I wrote a little something above each one. It’s almost 2013 here in Australia and that means it’s time to share my…

Top 10Way back in January 2012 in my card making days, this is one of my all time favourite cards that I made and I think it has absolutely everything to do with the image from Krista at Saturated Canary.

Jan

I don’t know why, but there is something whimsical about this smash page that makes it one of my favourites, because it’s so Heidi, so suiting.  Using image from AngieDelarie.

APRILThis what a RE-SCRAP.  You can find the blog post HERE…  I took an old scrapbook page and re-scrapped it.  It’s a photo of my mum and I and one that I have always just loved.  She looks so hippy, just like me.

AUGUSTMy first daybook that I completed and basically my only still.  And I loved absolutely every moment of it and love getting it out to flick through.  I had no theme, just added photos that I loved and made sure there was a bit of everyone.  Amy Tan [Tangerine] is amazing and I was lucky to meet her and get her to sign this very daybook!  Something I will now cherish forever.

029I love my sister, would do anything for her.  And I love when she comes to town for a weekend.  It’s almost like she feels she can be her again.  Not that is fake haha, but she gets to let down her hair and leave her stressful work life behind just for a little while and be a dag and an amazing aunty.  One of my favourite smash pages to date and I think it’s mainly because of the photos of Bashy…

OCT

I love this layout.  Am I aloud to say that?  We should be proud of what we do!  I got a mini kit from Jodie at Polka Dot Creative and while I was meant to be cooking dinner I kept coming back to this layout and it came together by the time dinner was on.  It all just came together so well and I love the photo of my mini me and I.

OCT1This was one of my first 12 x 12 layouts that I done.  It all came together so well and using Amy Tan products really does help, as they are so me!  I love doing a clutter in a corner and paint spots around that, that is my style [lately].  This was a Design Team work for Polka Dot Creative.

NOV2

I put this together to showcase my stamps and while I smudged the black ink spots and thought I wasn’t happy with it, the more I kept looking at it the more imperfectly perfect it was for my style.

NOV

Project Life didn’t play a BIG role in my life this year, not like I was hoping for.  But it did play a part of it.  2013 is going to be different I can feel it.  But till then I am still going to play catch up with 2012 and this week was done as part of a hop for Paper Issues and The Stamp Shop.

DECI made a few Christmas crafts and I actually wanted to list another 4, but of course I like them more so because they are my latest creations.  This happened when I did this last year.  i had to stop myself from wanting to pick all my latest crafts.  I was so pleased with how this turned out.  I am considering just leaving it there for the year on my door!

Smashing Sunday… [Picture Heavy-ish...]

Well would you look at that it’s Sunday and I am posting my post.  Only I don’t have any pages to show you “per say” I decided to do another Smashing Sunday, where I share about a question I have been asked recently about SMASH* as I do get them a lot.  And I always love sharing my thoughts and ideas and help someone get into it.

And before I do start to waffle on as when I love a topic there is NO stopping me.  I do have to make a little side note that I do not claim in anyway to be a professional smasher (if there is such a thing, lol) and that I am in no way linked to the company.  These are all my own ideas and experiences…

What to smash - give a girl a blog - kellie winnell

I get asked this a LOT, because I know it can be quit daunting when you first start, all the pretty pages, you don’t want to cover them and your not sure what to smash about?  I like to call myself a smashbooker as I sort of smash and sort of scrapbook.

  • Do you hold onto tickets
  • What about birthday cards
  • I’m sure you all have bits and bobs
  • Or photos from your instax or had lying around.

Well then this could be the thing for you.  If you follow my blog then you would have seen all my SMASH* related posts, but if not then here is a link that will take you to check out all the posts linked to SMASH* HERE…. Do you want to scrapbook but never really done it before?  Then this is perfect.  You do not have to use a bunch of embellishments like you do if your a cardmaker or scrapbooker.  You could just stick the photos in, add some washi tape and jot down what happened and where.

I am going to share a range of older smashed pages to share with you some of the things you could smash about…

This is a smash page I did a while back.  Although it’s only a work in progress in this picture I wanted to share it to show that you don’t always have to smash about photos, or anything in particular.  This page is all about coffee as I love me a good coffee.  I smashed this in my pink smash book and was smashing this on the loungeroom floor while watching a DVD with the family.  I think that is something I love so much about smash booking as well.  I can grab a handful of things and only use them and it works.  YES they are my pj pants…

The above is one of my VERY first pages and done in my Blue smash book.  When I started I made the BIG mistake in trying to follow along with other people and not try and find my own style but mix the style of a few people I admire.  I say mistake because I look back on those pages and do not like them, they are not me.  BUT in saying that I wanted to show this page to show that YOU DO NOT have to use a range of embellishments all the time, a little note and washi tape and page DONE.  I smashed about a few things like the postal box was something we walked to every day, Balcony and view one of my favourite things, I wake to Heidi beside me almost daily (not so much anymore, my girl is growing up).  These are all little things, but little things I now wont forget about.  All photos were instagramed.

I really LOVED smashing the pages above.  I done these while sitting outside watching the girls play about on the trampoline and what not.  I wanted to smash that day I remember but I was stuck for an idea and then I looked on the table and these were all sitting on the table around me, and made perfect sense.  Again this page does not contain all that much of embellishment wise.

Journalling is always something that people find harder to do.  Some people love doing it and others are put off because they either don’t like their own hand writting (guilty) or they are worried that by doing so they will wreck their pages (guilty).  But I love looking back now and regardless of if I like my hand writing, it’s there and it adds a great personal touch.

Getting personal.  Some people start smashing and then they release it’s a great release for all the things you have been keeping in.  It almost becomes your journal of sorts and I have started to smash about a few personal things that occur in my life and it feels great when I look back over them.

Quick, simple and easy.  The above was just that.  Some people think that because you have smash book you have to fill every bit of the page, this is not true.  Some people like me only pop a little something there and over there and done.  It’s all about what you want to do and feel comfortable with.  Alpha’s are perfect to smash with.  Was smashed in my Blue smash book.

The mess myself and Kira make on the kitchen table when we are smashing.  Has nothing to do with showing ideas on what to smash about, I just wanted to warn that it can be messy, but it’s a smashing good time!

So there you have it, a little bit on what I smash about and why, that might help some of you finally dive into those books you are holding onto.

Blog Hop Shane Pages

See I really wasn’t lying look at all the mess around the book, lol.  I used the wedding SMASH* book for this as I am not using it for that but I don’t really have a theme, but if I had to give it one it would be FAMILY….  I really love the Noctura version of the song that is slightly different from the Offspring version, but my brother would hate to know I did a page on him and NOT used Offspring, so I sort of compromised….  I did all the lyrics of Offspring…..

Saturated Canary Challenge…

I am actually on time  whoa, whoa, WHOA …… Stop the press, alert the news, OK maybe it’s not worth the news, but the paper is still debatable, lol.

The challenge this fortnight for Saturated Canary Challenges is something rather easy, something we all need to either make a card or scrapbook page for and of course using a Saturated Canary image is a must, but I am sure you all have one…

….BIRTHDAY….

YES of course I smashed in my SMASH* book.  Pretty much a given….  Only I got one page done and not the one oppsite, I had a few plans for it and they weren’t working out, best to walk away come back another day refreshed and ready to get my SMASH* on that page hehe…..

0391

Heidi’s birthday is actually the 8th March not the 10th March, but her party was the 10th so I decided to date stamp 10th over and over like a boarder and love the effect.  I used So Sorry I was going for a “it’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to” although Heidi didn’t cry, which is odd as our Heidi is a little bit delicate, basically she can cry at the drop of a hat.

When I took this camera to her party, my friends {well I thought they were till they laughed at me, lol} and sister thought my camera looked HILARIOUS till they seen what it could do and then of course they loved it, even if it is the size of a brick and you look rather weird with it, especially when you put the mirror on to take a head shot with someone, lol.  But I couldn’t help but get a picture of my birthday girl, my Heidi.

I used a BUNCH of things from many places.  The fabric flat back button is what’s coming to Freckles & Pigtails and I am pretty or VERY excited, as I love using them.  The bird is from Typo, there is some Amy Tangerine in there, Washi Tape, Doily and so much more I am sure I have missed.

Come and join us, grab your Saturated Canary image or images and join us HERE… And while your there check out what the other Saturated Canary girls have come up with, they always amaze me and inspire me.

Instagram Monday

Another week gone by, are they not flying by?  Little scary really.

I have added a linky and am getting a badge made up for everyone that wants to come along and join in to add to their blog.  But my QUESTION to you is, do you like Monday or would you rather join in if it was another day?  But keeping in mind you have all week to link up and share your week through instagram.  Which if you don’t have this app and can get it, I HIGHLY recommend it.

But for now here is my week through intagram….

Have a fabulous week everyone xx

SMASH*ing Sunday with April Showers…

Before I get into my post I am getting a little badge made up for all you SMASH* ladies and guys to take and pop on your blog when you join in, I have a linky always after my posts and you have all week to link along as I love checking out what other fellow SMASHers have been up to, and feel free to link to an old SMASH* post, no rules, link as much as you like!

I hope you are all having a great weekend so far, I know some of you are still only in Saturday, us Aussie’s are always ahead and I love it when it hits Friday but when it hits Sunday I do wish we were still back in Saturday haha….

So I actually got a load of SMASH*ing done last night/early morning.  Was up till 3am with hubby we got hooked into watching Sons of Anarchy season 2.  We finished season 1 last week and when I took it back and went there Friday night, as it’s a routine the girls and I have, I was surprised to see they had season 2 for hire.

Sorry I got a bit side tracked there……

So there is a NEW challenge over at Saturated Canary and you still have 3 days to enter….. So be sure to have a play with one of your Saturated Canary images this weekend and join us HERE….

I was running late with my design post so I decided to mix it with my SMASH*ing Sunday post.  I had an idea in mind but didn’t know how to get it going, then I sat down and it all flowed together and I love when that happens.  And here is what I SMASH*ed….

043

I think you can pretty much tell when you look at the image below that the frame was already stuck down when  I stamped the text stamp right?!  I thought it would stamp ok, regardless, HOW wrong was I huh!?  Once I was done I thought ugh bugger, but then I didn’t overly mind it.

037

Yup I left this page all but blank apart from a stamp I took of Kristy last weekend I think by unity, but don’t hold me to that.  I just didn’t feel the need to cover it, but thought the stamp was a cute little added extra that was all it needed.

038

If there was one thing I would change it would be the pen colour.  The blue was a bit too blue but sometimes I feel I need to change from the black that comes with the SMASH* journals.  I used the amazing image that I have had for some time and so wanted to use and the challenge was perfect for it called “Enjoy the Rain”. I got a divider off Kristy when I went and stayed for the night, I never thought they would be very useful and she didn’t even know what they were haha, but now I rather like them and of course HAVE to have them.  The flat back button and fabric yoyo are from my little store, Freckles & Pigtails.

Have a SMASH*ing day xx
